The Future

What I’ve Learned So Far

As a 3rd Year Higher Level Apprentice Electrical Engineer at MTM Engineering, I’ve learned how to use software such as Bluebeam and Navisworks , which are used regularly across projects. Using these tools has helped me understand how designs are reviewed and coordinated as part of the wider project team.

Building Confidence on the Job

Learning on the job has helped build my confidence as an Electrical Engineer by teaching me real world skills that are used on sites and in the office. Being involved in live projects has helped me apply what I learn in college to real situations, which has been a big part of my development.

Technical and Practical Skills

Through my Higher Level Apprenticeship, I’ve developed a range of technical and practical skills. These include  measuring models, reading drawings & SLD’s, creating technical submissions & RFI’s, and completing cable schedules. These are all skills that I continue to build on as I gain more experience in the role.

Project Experience and Travel

As part of my role at MTM Engineering, I’ve had opportunities to work on different projects and travel. I’ve travelled to Milan in Italy and around Dublin to different job sites throughout my time working here. These experiences have helped me gain a better understanding of how projects operate on site.

Support, Future Plans, and Advice

MTM Engineering has supported my development throughout my apprenticeship by giving me the freedom to shape my education. I’m currently completing a foundation degree, with the opportunity to progress to a top-up degree as I continue to develop in my role.

Looking ahead, I want to keep building on the experience and confidence I’ve gained so far while continuing to develop my skills as an Electrical Engineer.

My advice to anyone thinking about starting a Higher Level Apprenticeship in engineering is to do it. It has been one of the best decisions I’ve made, as you gain real-world experience while getting paid to learn.
